Chimpanzee - Kibale Forest National Park
Kibale Forest National Park is famous for its primates population. 13 species of primate
are resident in Kibale which is one of the highest primate densities in the world.
With lush tropical rainforests and fascinating diversity of animals Kibale Forest National Park
is one of the most beautiful and stunning forest
in Uganda with a spanning altitudes of 1100-1600m.

Grasslands and swamps are also abundant. Kibale Forest National Park offers a typical eastern afro-montane and western lowland forest.
The park covers an area of 766 sq. km with a rich biodiversity of 250 tree species, 144 different kind of butterflies and 325 species of birds.
Two major tribes live around the park: the Batooro and the Bakiga. The community receives 20% of entrance fees for their development projects.

Wildlife
Kibale is noted for its primate population. 1150 chimpanzee are protected within the park. Many species are present: red-tailed monkey, diademed monkey, blue monkey, white cheeked mangabey, olive baboon, chimpanzee, black, white and red colobus. Other mammals are: bushbuck, Harvey's red duiker, blue duiker, genet, bush pig, and African civet.
More difficult to spot are buffalo, waterbuck, hippo, warthog, and giant forest hog. Forest Elephant have become more and more rare, and now are seldom seen, although the signs of these elephants' presence is abundant. There are 144 species of butterfly in the park.

Birdlife
Kibale Forest National Park hosts over 325 species of bird. 4 of these
are not recorded in any other national park in Uganda like the Nahan's francolin, Cassin's spinetail, blue headed bee eater and the masked apalis.
One of the best birdwatching spots is in the near Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, 5km away from the visitors centre at Kanyanchu outside
the park where is possible to observe birds around swamp areas.

Activities
Chimpanzee Habituation Experience will allow visitors to follow daily activities of chimpanzee, (from 5.30am to 7.30pm) following them from de-nesting up to when they will go to sleep.

Unguided walks are possible everywhere apart of the long forest path
and Magombe swamp.
Sebitole forest centre offers bird and primate viewing and forest walk to the water falls.

Guided walks:

Chimpanzee tracking offers a chance of 90% to see chimps habituated to human presence in their natural environment.
The groups are restricted to 6 persons. The activity lasts for 2-4 hours.
Forest hike is a trail of 12km restricted to the dry season (Nov-Feb; Jun-Sept). The trail leads through tropical rainforest, riverine, swamp and grassland observing birds and monkeys.
a 64 km long distance walk is possible for the adventurous visitors
who want to enjoy more of the forest over a period of 2-6 days.

Children:
Small walks of 1 or 2 hours followed by creative activities are possible
for children, especially under 12 years of age, that are not allowed
to see chimpanzees.
